Students tour golf courses
Bonita Bay Group golf courses often double as outdoor classrooms. Local schools are invited to participate in educational tours of our facilities to learn how golf courses can be built and operated with high environmental standards. Typically it is 4th or 5th grade classes that attend to discuss topics of discussion such as:
•The different type of plants used on lake banks and why they are so important for the fish and wildlife habitats, as well as preventing chemical runoff.
•The large variety of birds and other small animal in the woods and what we do to protect them, as well as why we leave dead trees and brush piles whenever possible.
•Our limited use of chemical applications, the alternatives to them and BBG's
Each club customizes the tour for their facility. At a recent tour of Shadow Wood, we constructed bat houses that each child took home that day and explained to them how beneficial bats are to the environment.
Fifth graders from Bonita Springs Elementary have toured Bonita Bay this year, 4th and 5th graders from The Community School in Naples visited Mediterra and a troop of Boy Scouts explored TwinEagles. The field trips are a lot of fun for the students, and for our staff, and each club tries to schedule at least one every year.
