  Big Cypress Elementary Students Celebrate the Opening of 'Paw's Garden' Habitat, Nature's Newest Classrom When the ladybugs landed and checked out their new home earlier this month, students at Big Cypress Elementary School in Naples held a welcome-to-the-neighborhood party for the new residents of Paw’s Garden. During May, third graders released the little spotted bugs dressed in bright red wings to join a myriad of native species that are gathering in the new habitat. Recently, approximately 65 students gathered with guests to celebrate the official opening of nature’s newest classroom.

  Spring Creek Elementary Students Celebrate Completion of Habitat Project and Outdoor Nature Classroom Mother Nature is enrolling some of her children at Spring Creek Elementary in Bonita Springs and attendance is climbing, thanks to approximately 200 students who dug in to make a home for several of Southwest Florida’s littlest inhabitants. Last week, 100 students held a housewarming of sorts to mark the official opening of the mini-oasis they researched, designed and built. The Florida panther is the school mascot, making Panther Pond Habitat the perfect name for a celebration of nature.

  Verandah Residents, Employees Recognize Earth Day with Waterfront Cleanup Observers along the banks of Verandah’s waterways saw a familiar sight on April 22, as Verandah residents and employees scoured the banks of the Orange River and the community’s numerous lakes, cleaning up debris in honor of Earth Day. The annual cleanup, now in its fifth year, brought volunteers on Verandah’s kayaks to the shores of the Fort Myers community’s 1.75-mile frontage along the Orange River; other volunteers gathered debris along the banks of the lakes that are woven into the Old Orange and Whispering Oak golf courses.
