Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium Presents Spring Fling

The public is invited to attend the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium’s Spring Fling fund-raiser, to be held at Verandah’s River House Saturday, May 20 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The popular annual event features an evening of entertainment including cocktails, southern cuisine provided by the Verandah River House Restaurant, a presentation by glass artist Lucas Century and registration for a silent auction.

Tickets are $100 each. Ticket holders will be entered in a Reverse Raffle, with the final $5,000 winning ticket drawn at the end of the evening. Every 25th ticket drawn wins $250. (Attendance at the event is not necessary to win.)

Spring Fling sponsors include The Bonita Bay Group, Johnson Engineering, CDM, Passarella & Associates, Pavese Law Firm, First Community Bank of Southwest Florida, Gulfstream Homes and GL Homes.

The Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium, a private, not-for-profit, environmental education center, was voted 2004’s Best Nature Center in Florida by readers of Florida Monthly magazine. The vital community center situated on 105 acres features the Living Natural History Museum with live native animals; the Butterfly Aviary and Native Plant Nursery; the Audubon Aviary which permanently houses injured birds of prey; nature trails; the Planetarium with regularly scheduled astronomy programs and laser light shows, gift shop, picnic areas as well as meeting facilities.

The Calusa Nature Center is conveniently located at 3450 Ortiz Avenue at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Six Mile Cypress in Fort Myers, one minute from I-75 at exit 136.

Programs are sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Verandah – selected as the Lee Building Industry Association’s Community of the Year in April 2005 – is the 1,456-acre master-planned community being developed by The Bonita Bay Group along a 1.75-mile stretch of the Orange River in Fort Myers, two miles east of I-75 on State Road 80. Verandah’s River House features Jesse Fish lounge, the 120-seat Alligator Pear restaurant and the open-air River Terrace overlooking the river. For more information, visit
